Danger to Life: 50+ Homes Evacuated in Monmouth Amid Severe Flooding
A major incident has been declared in Monmouth after severe flooding caused by Storm Claudia left parts of the town under water and forced emergency services to carry out multiple rescues.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that widespread flooding across the area led to urgent evacuations and extensive safety operations overnight.
Natural Resources Wales issued four severe flood warnings for Monmouth and surrounding communities, warning of a significant risk to life. More than 40 additional flood alerts and warnings remain in place across Wales as heavy rainfall continues.
“Teams have been carrying out rescues, evacuations, welfare checks, and moving residents from affected areas to places of safety,” the fire service said in a statement.
Personnel from Gwent Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, and Monmouthshire council have joined the coordinated response effort.
Emergency services warn the public to stay away
Fire service area manager Matt Jones described the flooding as significant and urged people to stay clear of the affected zones.
“We need to keep routes clear to allow emergency services to reach the people who need us most,” he said.
He advised residents that anyone facing immediate danger to life or property should call 999 without delay.
The latest severe weather follows days of disruption after flooding in Carmarthen, which one business owner described as the worst in living memory.
